Acrylic paint can be thinned with water or a thinner.<\/h2>\n<p>Acrylic paint is a water-soluble paint. It can also be diluted with a thinning agent, such as a retarder.<\/p>\n<h3>Using acrylic paint alone<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Acrylic paint<\/strong> can be used <strong>on its own<\/strong>, without mixing with water or any other painting medium. This way, you can pick up the paint directly with your brush, spalter or knife and use it immediately. The advantage of using acrylic paint alone is that it has a high covering power and is fully opaque.<\/p>\n<h3>Mixing acrylic paint with water<\/h3>\n<p>Using water in acrylic paint will help to thin the paint. This makes it easier to use.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how it works: The more water there is, the more transparent your paint will become. In fact, the more water you add, the lower the pigment concentration. Prevent paint from drying on brushes and spalters<\/h2>\n<p>A very common mistake when you&#8217;re just starting out. You work on a painting, then as you create, you use a new brush, a new spalter and so on. Then you forget them on the corner of your table.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Result<\/strong>: the fibers of your brushes and spalters are glued together by dry acrylic paint, making them virtually impossible to recover.<\/p>\n<p>Adopt the right reflexes by using a pot and water trays to immediately immerse unused equipment.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>3. Mastering the drying of acrylic paint<\/h2>\n<p>Acrylic paint dries quickly. This can be seen as either an advantage or a disadvantage. It all depends on how you work with paint.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unthinned acrylic paint dries in minutes<\/li>\n<li>The more water or thinner you use, the longer the drying time.<\/li>\n<li>You can speed up drying times with a fan, hairdryer or heat gun. But be careful with this technique, as it may alter the behavior of your pigments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>5. Apply acrylic paint layer by layer<\/h2>\n<p>Acrylic paint is usually applied layer by layer. Acrylic paint: How to create textures<\/h2>\n<p>Textures can be created with acrylic paint. This is made possible by the property of its binder, which sticks and sets once dry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creating textures is easy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pour acrylic paint<\/li>\n<li>Mix in sand, earth, coffee, wood&#8230; (anything you can think of!).<\/li>\n<li>Once the paint is dry, the material will set and stick firmly to your canvas.<\/li>\n<li>Be careful, however, not to overload your paintwork with your material.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/texture.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"935\" height=\"442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/texture.jpg 935w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/texture-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/texture-768x363.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/texture-150x71.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 935px) 100vw, 935px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>7. Acrylic paint: Use dedicated clothing<\/h2>\n<p>Acrylic paint stains and dries fast! So you absolutely must have an outfit dedicated to your acrylic painting practice.<\/p>\n<p>Because even if you act fast, it&#8217;s hard to get your stained clothes back!<\/p>\n<p>You can also use an apron, as many artists have done.<\/p>\n<p><em>In my case, I have several outfits specially dedicated to this purpose (jeans, T-shirts, sweaters &amp; even jackets!).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6805\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/vetements-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"723\" height=\"272\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>8. The spalter to never run out of ideas<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to tell you about a technique that&#8217;s widely used in the world of modern painting, contemporary painting and abstract painting.<\/p>\n<p>The spalter is a kind of brush, generally large in size, which will help you avoid the detail trap. It&#8217;s a great way to avoid running out of ideas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The spalter makes it easy to express yourself<\/li>\n<li>Its large size will prevent you from falling into the &#8220;details&#8221; trap<\/li>\n<li>It allows you to create layers of paint quickly and easily.<\/li>\n<li>It helps you to be creative<em>(at least it does in my case<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/spalter.jpg\" alt=\"Spalter technique for abstract acrylic painting\" width=\"674\" height=\"388\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2>10. Study paints, fine &amp; extra-fine<\/h2>\n<h3>Study\/school paintings<\/h3>\n<p>These are entry-level paints. You can recognize them simply by their low prices. It&#8217;s the ideal type of paint for getting started.<\/p>\n<h4>Advantages :<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The cheapest on the market<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Disadvantage :<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Low pigmentation<\/li>\n<li>Low-quality pigment<\/li>\n<li>Paint may fade with age and light<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Fine acrylic paint<\/h3>\n<p>Widely used by beginners and some professionals. Fine acrylic paint is offered by a large number of brands, in all price ranges.<\/p>\n<h4>Advantages :<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Good value for money<\/li>\n<li>Offered by many brands<\/li>\n<li>Plenty of choice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Disadvantages :<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Lower pigmentation than extra-fine paint<\/li>\n<li>Paint may sometimes be slightly altered by ageing and light<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Extra-fine acrylic paint<\/h3>\n<p>Highly concentrated in pigment, extra-fine paint is the top-of-the-range acrylic paint. This is classified in different &#8220;series&#8221; (usually from 1 to 6) and at different costs. The extra-fine paint provides an excellent rendering with powerful, saturated hues.
