How to create a background that will form a solid basis for the beginning of our composition and painting.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a short tutorial, one of my techniques for creating <strong>an acrylic background with ease<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Special features of acrylic paint<\/h2>\n<p>Before embarking on the creation of our acrylic background, it is important to understand the different characteristics of acrylic paint:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Acrylic paint dries quickly,<\/li>\n<li>In some cases, acrylic paint can change shade after drying,<\/li>\n<li>It is possible to mix colors together<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/peinture-acrylique-faut-il-faire-des-melanges\/\">(see my article on paint mixing<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s a good idea to use a little water to increase fluidity<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/comment-utiliser-de-la-peinture-acrylique-avec-de-leau\/\">(see my article on using acrylic<\/a> paint).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to make a background with acrylic paint<\/h2>\n<p>My specialty is abstract painting. So I&#8217;m going to show you my method for making backgrounds easily using two or more colors\/shades.<\/p>\n<h3>The equipment used<\/h3>\n<p>In this example, I use the following equipment dedicated to acrylic painting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gerstraeker canvas stretcher 60cm x 60cm.<\/li>\n<li>Amstertam fine\/study paint tubes.\n<ul>\n<li>A tube of Carmen red acrylic paint<\/li>\n<li>A tube of yellow\/orange paint<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Vinci spalter size 100.<\/li>\n<li>Humidifying spray (water-based)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To discover all the materials I use, I invite you to download my free 20-page guide to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/guide-cours-pdf\/\">acrylic &amp; abstract painting materials<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Applying the first color<\/h3>\n<p>First, I moisten the canvas with my spray, a few strokes are enough.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5682 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/etape-1-spray-premiere-couche-du-tableau.jpg\" alt=\"step 1 spray painting\" width=\"652\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/etape-1-spray-premiere-couche-du-tableau.jpg 652w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/etape-1-spray-premiere-couche-du-tableau-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/etape-1-spray-premiere-couche-du-tableau-150x77.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 652px) 100vw, 652px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, I apply my first coat of paint evenly over the entire canvas. I add a little water when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>I take care to fill all the spaces on the canvas so that there&#8217;s no white left (the canvas&#8217;s white).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5684 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/etape-1-application-de-la-premi%C3%A8re-couleur.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"652\" height=\"336\"><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Application of the second color<\/h3>\n<p>At this point, I apply a little of my second color to the lower part of my painting.<\/p>\n<h4>The importance of depth<\/h4>\n<p>In a painting, I think it&#8217;s very important to have depth in the composition. To achieve this, I use a lighter shade in the center.<\/p>\n<p>I gradually blend my two shades, working my way up towards the center.
