{"id":12079,"date":"2017-06-02T12:26:49","date_gmt":"2017-06-02T10:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/find-the-perfect-carton-for-your-paintings-for-free\/"},"modified":"2017-06-02T12:26:49","modified_gmt":"2017-06-02T10:26:49","slug":"find-the-perfect-carton-for-your-paintings-for-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/en\/find-the-perfect-carton-for-your-paintings-for-free\/","title":{"rendered":"Find the perfect carton for your paintings for free!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jU2UrsXuaRU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wrapping a painting<\/strong> is always a complex mission!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The paintings you send are always different in terms of format.<\/li>\n<li>A large-format painting can be both imposing and fragile.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s virtually impossible to find packaging in the right format for shipping paintings.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s always scary to leave your work in the hands of a deliveryman in a hurry&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t panic<\/strong>! <strong>I&#8217;ll show you how to find solid, low-cost cardboard<\/strong> that you can shape to ship your paintings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>My experience of sending paintings<\/h2>\n<p>As you know, I send out a considerable flow of paintings, and I&#8217;d like to share with you all my little tricks to make sure your painting arrives complete and safe!<\/p>\n<p>In just a few years, I&#8217;ve sent over 200 paintings to France, Switzerland, Belgium &amp; Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Of these 200 paintings, two arrived damaged, but I have to tell you that this was probably due to my beginner&#8217;s mistakes on my very first shipments.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I&#8217;m able to send large parts without the slightest problem, and at lower cost.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Mistakes not to make<\/h2>\n<h3>Do not use cardboard and wrap your board only in Kraft paper.<\/h3>\n<p>Don&#8217;t laugh! I&#8217;ve seen it many times! Some take their painting and wrap it directly in a generous layer of Kraft paper, without using cardboard. This is a big mistake, as your parcel is bound to take a beating in transit, and I&#8217;ll leave you to imagine the state of the painting when it arrives.<\/p>\n<p><em>You can use this type of paper, but only as a finish over cardboard packaging.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Use single-flute cardboard<\/h3>\n<p>Single-flute cardboard is not strong enough for shipping paintings.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, if you remember, I explained to you that I&#8217;d had problems sending two paintings when I first started out. This was due to the fact that my cardboard packaging was single-flute. Don&#8217;t make the same mistake I did!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Packages in a format totally different from your painting<\/h2>\n<p>We tend to want to find a ready-made cardboard box, put the board in it and stuff it with paper to fill the empty space. Don&#8217;t do it! This is because your painting will wander around in the box during transport, and this can cause considerable damage to your canvas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Choosing the ideal box<\/h2>\n<p>You need to find a sturdy cardboard box, one that will be able to secure your painting in all circumstances. To achieve this, you need to use a <strong>double-flute<\/strong> or, ideally,<strong> triple-flute<\/strong> cardboard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1508\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/carton-pour-emballer-tableau.jpg\" alt=\"cardboard to pack picture\" width=\"760\" height=\"342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/carton-pour-emballer-tableau.jpg 760w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/carton-pour-emballer-tableau-300x135.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/carton-pour-emballer-tableau-150x68.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Where to find the boxes?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1509 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/dechets_cartons-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"find cardboard\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/dechets_cartons-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cours-de-peinture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/dechets_cartons-300x300-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>I naturally turned to the specialists in the field, such as <strong>Cartonmarket<\/strong> and <strong>Raja<\/strong>, and was quickly surprised and disappointed by what I found. The references for sending paintings were very limited in terms of format, and let&#8217;s face it, I wasn&#8217;t prepared to spend several dozen euros on a single box! So I quickly abandoned the idea.<\/p>\n<p>So I asked myself, where am I going to find cardboard, and in large format! Then I remembered that every day, behind most stores and stores, I saw dumpsters full of cardboard boxes.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s how I got the boxes for most of my shipments. <strong>Just ask in the stores<\/strong> if you can pick up a few boxes from their skips<em>(I know it&#8217;s not easy when you&#8217;re shy &#8211; I am!<\/em>). But honestly, you&#8217;ll see that the sellers will be happy that you can take it off their hands! It usually suits them!<\/p>\n<h3>Bike stores!<\/h3>\n<p>The best advice I can give you right now is to go and get your boxes from <strong>bike store skips<\/strong>! In fact, these are the best cardboard boxes for packing your paintings, with the following advantages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They&#8217;re big! Ideal even for very large rooms<\/li>\n<li>They&#8217;re sturdy: made of double or even triple fluting!<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s free!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>  Ecological approach<\/h3>\n<p>Collecting your boxes is not only free, it&#8217;s <strong>also very environmentally friendly<\/strong>. In effect, you&#8217;re reclaiming used cardboard for recycling. So no waste, it&#8217;s really time to be eco-responsible&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>How do I wrap my painting?<\/h2>\n<p>In hindsight, my advice is to <strong>make your own packaging<\/strong> for your paintings,<strong>using large sheets of cardboard<\/strong>.
