How to find exhibitions

Your canvases are piling up one on top of the other, and you’re thinking it’s time to start looking for exhibition spaces? Then this article is for you!

Are you ready to exhibit?

Wanting to exhibit is one thing, but are you ready?

You need to have confidence in your art and your work. If you don’t, your audience will notice, and that’s not a good thing.

If you’d like to give yourself a boost and reassure yourself about your creations, I recommend you watch my video and article on how to get objective feedback on your paintings.

And exhibiting your art doesn’t have to be a difficult experience, remembering that the most important thing is to enjoy it as much as possible!

Various exhibition venues

Ask at your town hall or tourist office.

This is the first thing I recommend you do. Town halls and tourist offices have the vast majority of information on events in your area. Please contact the cultural department directly.

You can submit your request by e-mail, telephone or, best of all, in person at your local town hall.

Your town hall will keep you up to date on events (art markets, exhibitions, etc.).

Art galleries

THE art gallery is the artist’s ultimate goal! But don’t get ahead of yourself. You can indeed approach art galleries, but if they ask you for money to exhibit your work: run away!

After all, the relationship with a gallery is based on trust! A real gallery worthy of the name must have a crush on your art and bank on it. A gallerist will not ask you for money, but will be remunerated by commission on sales.

To apply, put together a serious dossier accompanied by beautiful photos of your paintings and events to get maximum credit. You also need to “tell the story” of your art – it has to have a real history!

Exhibiting in restaurants

It’s an easily accessible option. Many restaurants will allow you to exhibit on their premises. But to be honest, I don’t find it really effective.

After all, customers will be looking at their plates rather than your paintings. But you can still try it out and draw your own conclusions!

Art fairs and markets

It’s a great opportunity. Exhibiting at art fairs and markets gives you the opportunity to show your art to an interested target audience.

Art auctions

In my opinion, a certain level of notoriety is required for auctions to be profitable. Fees are very high, and paintings often sell for low prices…

It’s not uncommon to hear of artists who have sold paintings without receiving any money at all (due to the reimbursement of fees and commissions).

Open the doors to your workshop

Do you have a workshop? Make the most of it! People love discovering your story and the setting in which your works come to life!

Charity events

A great opportunity to combine visibility with the pleasure of participating in a noble cause!

Exhibiting on the Internet

The Internet is a tremendous opportunity, and as you know, it’s the one I’m focusing on.

In 2017, the Internet is vast and offers you a multitude of ways to spread the word about your art.

A website/blog

As I explain in this video, a website is a superb opportunity to showcase your paintings and communicate.

However, a website, no matter how beautiful, is useless without communication.

Indeed, you’ll need to work actively to implement the Webmarketing levers that are relevant to your case, to ensure satisfactory visibility (SEO, natural referencing, social referencing, mailing lists, etc.).

Other solutions

In the video, I explain the other services that also offer you the possibility of exhibiting online:

I hope this video will give you a few keys to finding your exhibitions! Thank you in advance for leaving us a comment to share your own experience on the subject! Thank you!
