Learn to paint: getting started with acrylic paint
You don’t need to be a gifted painter or artist to start painting. No matter how creative or dexterous you are, acrylic painting is something you can get to grips with.
It’s a bit difficult to know where to start.
Here are some tips for getting started with painting:
🖌️ Set aside some time in your schedule to paint. Art requires a certain amount of availability. After all, painting means taking out materials, arranging them around you, wiping up a few stains, washing, tidying up, etc. To get off to a good start in a new artistic hobby, it’s ideal to have time on your hands and to make yourself available “emotionally” too. 🙂 .
🖌️ after the agenda 😉: the location ! Don’t wait to treat yourself to a complete workshop before you start painting: a table is all you need, ideally high enough for ergonomic reasons, and not too small to hold all your brushes, tubes, etc.
🖌️ here we are: the equipment! Don’t take a 33-ton truck to the art store to buy all the brushes and color tubes available. You’ll be surprised to learn that 3 basic colors are all you need. Equip yourself with primary colors (for more details, go to HERE), which you’ll easily learn to mix together. For the rest of the equipment a good start with acrylic painta water spray, a container of water, a plate or plastic bin lid as a palette, a few rags and some motivation will complete the list!
Finding your style in painting: inspiration and ideas for paintings
That’s the question on everyone’s mind: what to paint, and how to find painting ideas?
Here are a few tips for painting a new picture:
🖌️ Visit museums of all kinds, go to exhibitions. Go bargain hunting in old towns, take a walk in nature. And pay attention to what you see, smell, hear and feel. Develop your senses, let your emotions emerge. For it is this sublime sensitivity that will be your best ally. It will guide you in your choice of colors, to create your most beautiful compositions.
🖌️ In the beginning, you can base your work on the paintings of artists who inspire you, just to gain confidence in your gestures. Learn the brushstrokes, how to cast a few shadows, create a little relief and so on. But before long, break away from copying and try your own hand. There’s no such thing as failure in art. All your painting experiments will always be one step closer to learning acrylic painting techniques!
If you don’t like something, try something different until you find what you like.
🖌️ Don’t ask others! In the early days, nothing is more tempting than asking around: “what do you think of my painting?” We all need reassurance about our painting skills. But an opinion on a work is subjective. Just because someone doesn’t like your painting doesn’t mean it isn’t “beautiful” or “successful”. Present it, put it on social networks if you like, without asking people to say what they think of it. Of course, you’ll get feedback and comments, and you’ll see that they’re much more encouraging than negative.
