Am I up to it? Will my paintings please?

Here’s Halima’s question: “I’m scared, I don’t know if I’ll be up to the task and if my paintings will please”.

The state of mind when you start painting

It’s normal to have a lot of questions when you start painting or any other artistic activity.

The questions are often the same:

  • What will people think?
  • Am I up to it?
  • Can I really learn to paint?
  • How do you become a true artist?

You don’t paint for others!

It’s a mistake to immediately imagine what your audience will think, as this is a personal process.

You should paint for yourself, not for others! If this isn’t the case, I suggest you take another look at“WHY” you want to become a painter.

It’s essential that you like your paintings, otherwise I honestly don’t think they’ll work. You won’t be putting your guts into your paintings, and you won’t be constantly striving to outdo yourself.

Listen to your expectations

  • Are you satisfied with your work?
  • Do you feel emotions when you look at your paintings?
  • Do you take pride in your work?

Present your paintings to friends and family

If you’re happy with your results, it’s time to start presenting your paintings to your friends and family. To do this, you can :

Never make a painting without pleasure

It’s inconceivable to create a painting without wanting to do it! In any case, over time, after several hundred paintings. I can confirm that this doesn’t work for me, and that it’s the best way to miss and throw away a painting!

Table orders, a trap

As you progress, you’ll start to make a name for yourself, and some will want a personalized painting. For example, the famous: “I love this one, but I’d prefer red instead of blue… ”

Don’t fall into the trap and refuse if you don’t feel like it. Refuse if it doesn’t work, and refuse if it’s simply not you!

You can see yourself changing the script of a movie you love 😉

Will I be up to the challenge? at the height of what?

What’s your goal? What do you want to achieve? Do you see this as a competition?

Once again, it’s up to you and you alone. There’s no pressure to put on yourself, and the objective should be to enjoy yourself, to seek fulfillment.

Brakes and irrational fears

Once again, we tend to find excuses not to get started. And because of this, beginners often tend to procrastinate.

It’s a shame to think that there are so many problems inherent in starting your own business, but it’s more often you and you alone who impose them on yourself.

Examples:

  • “The equipment is too expensive”
  • “I don’t have time, I’m working”.
  • “I can’t I have to watch my children”
  • “I don’t know how to paint, why should I try?”
  • And so on…

The only thing you risk with this attitude is regret… The regret of one day saying: “Why didn’t I go for it?”
