I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’re constantly confronted with “success stories” presented in the media, for example.
For example, if a show is about contemporary artists, it will present the great artists of our time, such as Jeff Koons .
But at no point will the spotlight be shone on the tens of thousands of emerging artists desperately seeking a little space.
And the catch in all this: a perceived impression that it’s easy to be successful and so you may be thinking, “Why not me?”.
There are many things to be aware of:
- Well-known artists are rather isolated cases and do not represent the mass!
- It took these artists years of hard work and sacrifice.
- The art market has never been as saturated as it is today
I’d like to show you how a painter’s business can evolve, and the pitfalls not to fall into.
Crossing the desert
It’s a very interesting concept that really made me understand a lot of things, and I quickly realized that this concept was a reality that could be applied to many things in life!
It’s a concept that came into being with the creation of innovative companies, particularly startups.
Then I realized that this concept was applicable to many other situations, such as in my case: My previous website design company, my blog, my YouTube channel, my social networks and of course: my artistic activity.
As you can see from my illustration above. There are several phases to launching your project:
Phase 1: Initial enthusiasm
Like any business you launch, you’re full of optimism and energy. You tell yourself that your project is perfect, and then it worked for Jeff Koons, so why not for you?
It’s with this good energy that your project is launched.
Phase 2: Back to reality, crossing the desert
After this rush of enthusiasm, you have to face reality.
You find yourself in a complicated phase in which you’re forced to put in a lot of effort for little result.
This phase can last anywhere from a few months to several years, and it’s here that your motivation, courage and determination will make the difference. We’ll look at this in a later section on Sacred Fire.
Over 90% give up during the desert crossing
It’s sad but it’s true… on average 90% of people who start an artistic activity, blog, etc. give up during the desert crossing for various reasons:
- Frustrated and tired of seeing their actions fail to produce results
- Frustrated at not being able to develop their artistic activity
- Frustrated by the lack of visibility
- Frustrated at not being able to sell paintings or make a name for themselves
- Frustrated by the lack of visitors to their websites, social networks or YouTube channels
- Etc. (The list could be so long…)
But is it really bad news?
I’d say it’s a great opportunity!
Well, yes: the market is saturated with artists, but if you’re motivated, courageous, ingenious, hard-working and passionate, you can be part of the 10% who succeed. Interesting, isn’t it?
The solution: Do you have what it takes?
Crossing the desert is hard, long and full of frustration. A lot of people take the plunge and say “we’ll see…”.
It’s a mistake, make sure you’re on the ball…
So what is this sacred fire?!
It’s simple, to have the sacred fire means to be animated by this flame, it’s strength that makes you so passionate, that you’ll be able to smash everything in your path, demonstrating a motivation that will be absolutely unshakeable.
The sacred fire will save you from your desert crossingto believe in your dream, to believe in your ultimate goal and to continue to give everything you have deep down to reach your goal without any pressure. never give upand this, without short-term results.
A small example in my case
I’ve been able to verify this concept in a number of activities in recent years, with both successes and failures.
Here’s an example for my blog and YouTube channel
As you can see from the image below, which represents the statistics of my blog and YouTube channel launched in early 2017, you can clearly see the phenomenon of crossing the desert and then coming out of it.
Specifically, when I started making videos and articles on my blog at the end of 2017, there was absolutely no one to check them out. And yet I continued to put a lot of energy into creating subjects out of passion, without the slightest return, with faith in my project.
And little by little, this energy began to pay off and more and more of you discovered my project. The proof, you are reading this article 😉
And this pattern is exactly the same for my other website, where I present my art and sell my paintings.
So why not you?
We’d love to hear from you!
Have you been through the desert? Thank you in advance for sharing your story with us in the comments at the bottom of this video.
