How to make a painting: Painting lessons

In this video, I’d like to share with you the making of a colorful quadriptych painting using mixed techniques and several layers. In this video to learn painting, let’s see how to make a colorful painting in my style of course 😉

Step 1: Let’s get started!

I begin by applying a fairly compact first coat of paint, which I leave to dry completely.

Step 2 : Second coat of paint

In a second coat, I color the first two frames very lightly with yellow acrylic paint.

Stage 3 : Here we go!

Still on the same layer of paint, I use turquoise acrylic paint and try as much as possible to create fine gradations between the paint shades.

Step 4 : Colour!

Still on the same coat, I continue to apply different shades, using the same technique.

Step 5 : More color, more color!

To balance the overall picture and support the different colors, I continue to apply new hues on new layers (such as the red color).

Step 4 : I’m fine-tuning!

I’m fine-tuning my entire painting, reinforcing certain areas.

Step 5 : The finishing touch !

As is often the case, I project patches of white to unify and balance the picture (well, that’s my opinion) and it also gives it a “spacial” feel!

What do you think of this painting?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this painting! I look forward to hearing from you 😉

In this painting, this painting class, I work in layers. To do this, I use a technique some people call “glazing”, allowing different layers of transparent paint to be applied.

The different stages in creating a painting

Step 1: Creating the first layer

I lay out the canvas and cover it with white acrylic paint. Then I create brown and blue shapes. The whole thing forms the first layer of my painting.

Step 2: Drying

I force the first coat to dry (slightly) using my famous heat gun 😉

Step 3: Color!

Once my first coat is completely dry, I decide to apply a very light coat of yellow to the right-hand side of the painting. I use very little paint to achieve the desired effect.

Step 4: More color!

As for step 3, I use the same process to apply different colors, such as purple. The light purplish hues perfectly match the blue of the first coat of paint. This creates a striking effect.

Step 5: Matching shades

Little by little, I join the parts of the picture and create a gradient between them.

Step 6: Multiple layers

I keep adding different layers of paint until I get the desired effect.

Step 7: The finishing touch!

I decided to create more contrast and depth by applying dynamic shapes with a painting knife.
